Love Tarot spreads are perhaps the most common types of spreads used in a tarot reader’s practice.
Single querents are often interested in questions like when they will meet their “other half.” Those already in relationships ask for Tarot spreads to see the future of their relationship, what to expect, and how to act. Tarot can also help answer questions such as how this person feels about me and how the relationship will develop.
The layouts for Tarot spreads about love and relationships are, on the one hand, quite diverse—each spread describes the positions in its own way. On the other hand, many of the positions are similar and often synonymous. It’s clear that the formulation of the positions depends on how the querent asks their question and what words they use to express what they want to know.
A tarot reader who listens carefully to the querent’s words breaks down the question into elements and creates a spread layout, assigning each position a specific element of the question.
Since people tend to ask more or less the same things—albeit in different words—the similarity of the positions becomes so obvious that the idea of combining them and perhaps even creating a universal relationship spread naturally arises.
But first, let’s take a look at the different types of love spread layouts and how the positions are defined. We’ll organize them by the number of positions—from the fewest to the most.
The purpose of this spread is to understand how to normalize a relationship, reconcile after a long conflict, breathe new life into an old relationship, or improve relations with colleagues.

If the querent is concerned about internal contradictions, then the right circle symbolizes the conscious mind, and the left circle the subconscious.

How to interpret the spread:
Start by looking at cards (3 — 7) to find common ground. If these positions show diametrically opposed cards, union and wholeness are difficult to achieve — unless it’s a mutual attraction of two extremes.
Then examine cards (1 — 5) to understand what those extremes are.
Next, look at cards (4 — 8), the most important ones, to see their inner needs. Usually, these internal, unconscious needs are stronger than the conscious aspirations and intentions reflected in cards (2 — 6).
